DVIcopy is Peter Breitenlohner's program for replacing all virtual font
characters in a DVI file with appropriate characters from actual fonts
(or the rules and other DVI commands allowed in VFs).
DVIcopy will do nothing if the selected DVI file does not use VFs.
If one or more VFs are used then DVIcopy creates a new DVI file with no
virtual font references, deletes the original DVI file and renames the
new file with the original name. If an error is detected, or if you
decide to cancel processing, DVIcopy will delete the new file and leave
the original file untouched.
Note that there is really no need to use DVIcopy because OzTeX (and dvips)
automatically resolve all references to virtual fonts. If you decide to
use DVIcopy then you need to be aware of a potential problem:
WARNING: A DVI file created by DVIcopy contains invisible rules with
unusual properties that many DVI-reading programs handle incorrectly.
The result is very poor character spacing. OzTeX and dvips have been
modified to handle such rules, but if you transfer the DVI file to some
other TeX system then there is a good chance you will see problems.
